Yes you are right, it got fixed with update 1.1.2.16. I've been meaning to update the question but never really got around to. Now I need to find a proper way to close it.

I don't know when this was fixed. In the latest browser when I try to scroll through the history results, the keyboard disappears automagically.

Thanks for sharing this. I never even realized the history was availabke in such a simple way. As another workaround, you can temporarily turn the phone to portrait. Simples!

Unfortunately not, as closing the keyboard closes the browser history as well! The saved bookmarks are then shown instead...

As a workaround you should be able to just close the keyboard by swiping down on it.

In stock browser, in order for the page history to become visible you have to tap on the url. This brings up the keyboard and at the same time a list with visited pages is shown below the url field....
